What's 94V0?

 

94V-0 is the highest vertical-burn classification in the UL 94 plastics-flammability standard.
A material rated UL 94V-0 must:

  • Self-extinguish within 10 s after each of two 10-second flame applications
  • Show no flaming drips that ignite cotton placed below the sample
  • Have a total after-flame time ≤ 50 s for all five test specimens
  • Exhibit no burn-through to the holding clamp 


In the PCB world, a “94V-0 board” simply means the laminate (typically FR-4) has passed this test, giving the circuit board high fire resistance suitable for power, industrial, automotive, or consumer products that must meet strict safety codes.
